About BuildCool
BuildCool is a free platform for teens (10–17) and their parents who want to learn electronics by building real projects — not by reading textbooks.
What you get
- 122 project tutorials — step-by-step instructions with code, wiring diagrams, parts lists, and line-by-line code explanations written for someone who has never programmed.
- Circuit Simulator — test your wiring and run the code right in the browser, before you spend a cent on parts. Works with every tutorial.
- Flash Tool — connect your ESP32 via USB, install MicroPython or CircuitPython, and write code — all from the browser. No Arduino IDE needed.
- Gift Guides — curated picks for Arduino, ESP32, robotics kits, 3D printers, and more. Short lists (5–8 picks), not 50.
- Quick Start — three paths from unboxing to a working project in 15 minutes.
Who builds it
BuildCool is built by a dad and maker who got tired of watching kids struggle with bad instructions, wrong pin numbers, and code that doesn't compile. Every tutorial is tested on real hardware, checked by an automated circuit doctor, and written so a 10-year-old can follow it without frustration.
How we pick products
We research, compare, and pick only the kits we'd recommend to our own family. We keep our lists short so you can decide fast. Every product links to an Amazon listing you can verify yourself.
Open source
The circuit simulator (ESPASIM) is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license. The tutorials, diagrams, and tools on this site are free to use.
